QUILT, QUILT, EVERYWHERE A QUILT PATTERN

Driving a semi has taught me to always be aware of you surroundings, not just the road infront of you but signs as well as stuff that may cause you have an accident. I became curious of a sign of sorts on the side of a barn in between Lexington and Louisville Kentucky. It was what appeared to be a quilt patter covering up two bears. I thought "hmm" but let it go. I have recently found more of these patterns spread all across the Kentuck, Tennessee, Carolinas, and Virginia areas even as far as Pennslyvania. My task is to find out why these quilt patterns are posted on sides of barns.
